INTERVIEWS
LOUIS CASTLE

By: Cabal & Warhound, 19th August 2000

Renegade

Cabal: Have you added any units/buildings to Renegade that weren't in C&C1?
Louis:
Yes. As part of the all new story for Renegade we have added characters, units and buildings. We have also detailed the interiors of the original buildings. The original rules and overall character of C&C still exisit but there are lots of new things to discover as well.

Cabal: Will it be easy to control vehicles?
Louis:
Yes. You simply jump into a vehicle and you are on your way. The control mechanics are extreamly similar between vehicles and characters which makes it very easy to go from one to the other.

Cabal: Why did you build your own engine instead of using an existing one?
Louis:
At the time we were begining this project the existing commercial engineswere not designed toward the large exterior spaces we needed to bring C&C tofirst/third person. Every engine has a focus and ours had to be C&C.

Cabal: Will GDI mission 6 from C&C1 be featured in Renegade?
Louis:
It is presumed that Havoc has completed mission 6 just prior to the beginning of the Renegade story line.

Cabal: What do you think the system requirements will be?
Louis:
It is difficult to say at this time. We will supporting a fairly low minimum spec with the ability to turn off visual features of the engine to improve frame rate on low end systems.

Cabal: Will Havoc encounter Kane?
Louis:
You'll have to wait and see!

Red Alert 2

Warhound: Are you going to have a map editor or make one after the release of RED ALERT 2 or are you going to help people like MATZE (Final Sun developer) create one?
Louis:
We have no plans to go beyond the map creation ability included in the product. Mission creation is very complex and our tool set was not intended for use by the general public.

Warhound: When building units will there be a queue limit like in TS which was 5?
Louis:
At present, the queue is set to unlimited, but may change for balance reason.

Warhound: Will the files Rules.ini and Art.ini exist in RA2?
Louis:
Probably

Warhound: Will there be cheats in RA2 or any secret missions like in the original RA?
Louis:
You'll have to wait and see!

Warhound: You took 5 years to develop Tiberian Sun, RA2 from what I know has been under development for only 1 year. Is there any possibility that RA2 might be delayed for that long?
Louis:
Actually TS was under development for 3 years. :) No. Red Alert 2 has been under development with a known engine and tool set for quite some time and we are very confident of an October 2000 release date.

Warhound: Will there be any new multiplayer mode like in TS Firestorm World Domination?
Louis:
There will be great multiplayer support, as always! Exact features and still being finalized.

Warhound: From all the RA2 fansites I haven't seen the Mammoth tank. In RA2 will there be the classical Mammoth tank?
Louis:
There are tons of new units and unit combinations. The exact Mammoth tank does not exist, but lots of fun stuff does.

Warhound: Are you going to take out any units like you did with TS?
Louis:
We have added and evoloved nearly every unit. None are exactly the same as they were.

Warhound: What do you think the system requirements will be?
Louis:
We haven't finalized the minimum specs yet, but it will be in the PII 266 range.
